Day two of the Minga and we picked up right where we left off...more sand, more mortar, more rock crushing. (Bryan reminded me that the pillars had to be in for today, so I added this part). The old concrete pillars that had been knocked down the day before, now had to get to the street for removal. Sounds easy enough, but the reality of that was extremely scary with the sketchy conditions. Each weighting at least 400-600 pounds with rebar coming out of them, had to make it from the "third level", down the rubble of level two and then pushed over the edge for about an 8 foot drop to level one, before beginning picked back up and carried over the kitchen table and through the front door.
The "room" that started off filled with materials was now almost clean so it was amazing to really start to see progress. Everyone is giving so much of themselves to this project for this family, all of us Crusaders but also workers from the Center, the family, and friends of the family. We got to meet some new Center employees, along with several of our friends from yesterday...they truly do make you feel like family here. Since Luz doesn't have a true bathroom, the neighbor does so we are welcome there, which is great! It was a hard day of work but very rewarding. Jaime, one of the new employees, we meet today saw our shirts and asked me about Heart-n-Soul. It was really awesome to get to share why were are here.
When we got back, we were on kitchen help tonight. We helped cook, set the table, and put the food out for dinner. Dallas Jesuit was still here tonight, but leave late this evening so come tomorrow we are on our own. Caitlin and the Center is amazing! I am so glad that God had Am push me to the Center!
